Changes coming to Connect Niagara bus routes

Connect Niagara, the Niagara County-run bus service, will undergo some changes to its bus routes beginning Jan. 20. Connect Niagara - formerly known as Niagara County Rural Transportation - is run by the county's Department of Public Works.

Coppins sends thanks to community following windstorm damage

On Monday, during a high-wind event, a portion of the front façade at Coppins Service Center was blown to the ground. Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 was quickly on scene, at 550 Center St., to mitigate damage and prevent any further problems.

On Dec. 19, a group of Lewiston citizens gathered to thank the Tuscarora Nation for saving the lives of early settlers who were attacked by British forces during the War of 1812. It was the 212th anniversary of the attack that occurred in 1813, when the "Tuscarora Heroes" intervened and bought enough time for the local residents to escape and flee down Ridge Road.

The Niagara County Parks Department on Tuesday said the outdoor ice rinks at Krull and Burmaster parks are now open to the public. The parks are open for ice skating between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily, and the rinks do have lighting.

Town of Lewiston OKs moratorium on site plans, special use permits

Lewiston Town Board members on Monday approved a six-month moratorium on permits covering seasonal/special use activities in the zoning districts. The vote followed a contentious, nearly 30-minute session where the board received a number of comments from speakers in defense of right-to-farm operations.

Santa arrived in Lewiston on Saturday morning, receiving a special escort from Lewiston No. 1 Fire Co. He began at Academy Park, paraded down Center Street, and situated himself in front of the Frontier House. There, he met with children, received Christmas lists, and took photos.
