The fourth Frank J. Gaffney Purple Heart recognition ceremony saw over a hundred spectators on hand outside the Niagara County Courthouse on Sunday. The American Legion Band of the Tonawandas performed, and 89 new names were added to the memorial monument in Lockport. There are now 557 named honorees carved in stone around the flagpoles next to the courthouse.

Each Tuesday morning during the summer concert season, a dedicated group from Intandem's community-based prevocational program arrives at Veterans Memorial Community Park with trash bags in hand and a sense of purpose. Their mission: Help clean up litter left behind after "Music Mania Mondays," the Town of Niagara's popular weekly concert series that draws large crowds and lively energy to the park.

Residents by Nash Road seemed largely not convinced by a demonstration of "training bikes" in the parking lot of Wheatfield Town Hall staged Wednesday, July 9. The presentation was offered to alleviate fears of noise in the neighborhood coming from a motorcycle training academy.

Senior Airman Ryan McAvoy was recently awarded the 2025 Merrell Lane Memorial Aviation Scholarship during a ceremony hosted by the Niagara Military Affairs Council. The award was presented by former NIMAC Chairman John Cooper Sr. and current Chairman Michael Zimmerman.

For the past three years, Niagara Wheatfield Central School District Art teachers Tracy Bloom and Jamie Gilbert have been collaborating on a stained-glass piece as part of their curriculum. It was designed to help students - many of whom were coming from the Tuscarora territory - feel more connected to the school community.

The Niagara County Legislature passed a resolution at their meeting Tuesday night opposed to National Grid's efforts to increase electric rates on its customers. The legislature called on Gov. Kathy Hochul to reject National Grid's plans, and filed comments opposed to the rate hike with the New York State Department of Public Service.
