SUNY Niagara has increased options for its graduates to earn a bachelor's degree by signing an agreement with Western Governors University. As a result, SUNY Niagara students will be able to transfer seamlessly to WGU upon completion of predetermined coursework in one of 11 academic disciplines.

Niagara Region State Parks announces 2025-26 duck blind drawings

The Niagara Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Has announced its annual duck blind drawings for the parks including Fort Niagara, Joseph Davis, Wilson Tuscarora and Golden Hill will be held at the Fort Niagara State Park Maintenance Building, 1 Maintenance Ave., Youngstown. Drawings will take place at 6:30 p.m. sharp, with doors open at 6 p.m., on the following days:

A notable penguin who made headlines five years ago as one of the first penguins to hatch at the Aquarium of Niagara in more than a decade is preparing for an exciting new chapter. Smitty, a Humboldt penguin who hatched in April 2020 alongside his sister, Jules, is moving to the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium as part of a coordinated effort among accredited zoos and aquariums to protect vulnerable species and maintain genetically diverse populations under human care.

Nearly 400 people from across Western New York and beyond gathered Saturday at Niagara Falls High School for the 12th annual Veterans Appreciation Day, hosted by Hands Healing Heroes. Veterans and their families - some traveling more than two hours to attend - were treated to an afternoon of live entertainment, raffles, entrance gifts, and a hearty home-cooked meal - all free of charge, including haircuts and massages for the veterans.

New exhibit at History Center features Haudenosaunee & Erie Canal

As the Niagara History Center commemorates the bicentennial of the Erie Canal, a new temporary exhibit has gone up in the Changing Exhibit Room in the Outwater House at 215 Niagara St., Lockport. This exhibit, titled "The Haudenosaunee and the Erie Canal: Dispossession and Displacement," shows how the idea and construction of the Erie Canal impacted the Indigenous people of New York.

SUNY Niagara wins $862,000 National Science Foundation Grant to expand tech teaching

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded SUNY Niagara $862,062 to upgrade its industrial arts technology facilities. The college received this funding as the result of a nationally competitive grant process. It will support a project titled "Advanced Manufacturing Program Modernization to Better Prepare Future Technicians," which will run through August 2028.
