Alzheimer's Association to host caregiver lunch & learn in Lockport

The Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association will host a caregiver lunch & learn in Lockport on Saturday, Aug. 23, for Niagara County caregivers and those living with Alzheimer's disease or dementia.

The Niagara County Office for the Aging will be distributing farmers market coupon booklets this weekend at the farmers markets in Lockport and North Tonawanda. The Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, provided by the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, provides these coupons to all who meet age and income requirements to buy fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables at participating farmers' markets throughout New York.

Niagara County recognizes Purple Heart recipients

The fourth Frank J. Gaffney Purple Heart recognition ceremony saw over a hundred spectators on hand outside the Niagara County Courthouse on Sunday. The American Legion Band of the Tonawandas performed, and 89 new names were added to the memorial monument in Lockport. There are now 557 named honorees carved in stone around the flagpoles next to the courthouse.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) has reaffirmed SUNY Niagara's accreditation through 2033. This action follows a MSCHE team's review of SUNY Niagara's programs and services, discussions with several members of the college community, and visits to its campus and other properties.
Niagara County seeking applicants for youth funding

The Niagara County Youth Bureau, as the recipient of funding from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services related to Youth Development Programming, Youth Sports and Education Funding, Youth Team Sports and Runaway and Homeless Youth Funding, is now accepting grant applications. Funding for the new program year begins Oct. 1, and runs through Sept. 30, 2026.

The City of Niagara Falls has a new, 1.75-mile path by Buffalo Avenue for walking, biking and jogging. The area begins at LaSalle Waterfront Park. It connects to the Niagara River Shoreline Trail, as the pathway takes users through the LaSalle neighborhood, onto a paved pathway along the LaSalle Expressway, and links with Cayuga Road to the rest of the trail.
